Recommendations by Sweden delivered by Mr. Fredrik Nivaeus, Minister Counsellor, Deputy Permanent Representative

President,

Sweden welcomes France’s strong commitment as regards the protection of human rights. In particular, Sweden welcomes the adoption of legislation concerning corporal punishment and domestic violence against children. However, Sweden would like to make the following recommendations.

  1. Take measures to, in a transparent manner, address allegations regarding excessive use of force by police and gendarmerie against protestors during demonstrations.
  2. Continue efforts to reduce overcrowding and improve conditions in French prisons and detention centres.
