Due to the worsened security situation in Syria, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs decided on 29 March 2012 to reduce the scope of activities and the number of staff at the Embassy of Sweden in Damascus until further notice.The Embassy is still open. The Swedish staff members are based in Beirut and the presence in Damascus is dependent on the security situation.
As the Embassy of Sweden in Damascus is not open to the public and does not handle migration matters the Swedish Government Offices regulation UF 2016:3 stipulates the following:
Syrian citizens residing in Syria are referred to the following Swedish Missions for handing in and performing interviews in residence permit cases:
Abu Dhabi, Ankara, Amman, Cairo, Khartoum, Riyadh and Istanbul.
