On April 12-15 the third edition of the Swedish Film Festival was held at The Projector. This year the festival focused entirely on films by the legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman as he would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. The festival was curated by the well-known Singaporean film maker Kirsten Tan who has described Bergman as “one of the most influencing film makers of all time”.
During the four day long festival a total of eight of Bergman’s most well-known films were shown, opening with “Chries and Whispers” and closing with the documentary “Bergman Island” by the Swedish Director Marie Nyreröd, who also visited Singapore for the festival. After the screening of “Bergman Island”, Marie participated in a Q&A session where she shared her personal thoughts and experiences of Ingmar Bergman. The Q&A session was moderated by the Singaporean documentary film maker Eva Tang.
In addition to the film screenings, the Swedish furniture company MöblerSingapore set up a beautiful Fanny and Alexander corner at the foyer of the Projector where the festival visitors could have their pictures taken and mingle in-between the film screenings.
The documentary about Bergman was also shown as a part of the Singapore Writers Festival Pop-Up series at The Arts House,where Marie Nyreröd also took part in a post-show discussion on the craft and process of a storyteller on film and on paper, together with the Singaporean writer Clara Chow. The discussion was moderated by the Singaporean journalist Genevieve Sarah Loh.
