About us

Welcome to the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai

The Swedish Consulate General was established in 2012. Its jurisdiction covers the western states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and the union territories Dadra and Nagar Haveli as well as Daman and Diu. This area comprises almost 180 million people.

Trade and investment as well as Sweden promotion are its focus areas. This includes promoting trade and investment, Sweden promotion and to promote exchanges between Sweden and India. Consular assistance to Swedish citizens and residents is also part of the core mission.

The Consulate works closely with Team Sweden members: the Swedish Embassy in New Delhi, Business Sweden and Swedish Chamber of Commerce in India to help liaise and increase business contacts between Swedish companies and certain strategic industries in India, such as energy & environmental technology, health care & life science, creative industries and ICT.

Business Sweden opened an office in Mumbai in March 2025. The office is co-located with the Consulate.

The Consulate Can Assist With:

  • Consular assistance, including:
    • Applications for coordination numbers
    • Paternity cases
    • Death-related matters
  • Temporary passports (regular passport matters are referred to the Embassy in New Delhi)
  • Voting services (when applicable)

The Consulate Can Not Assist With:

  • Regular passport matters
  • Migration matters (including visas, residence or work permits)
  • Consent forms for passport applications for minors
  • Notary public services
  • Life certificates or certificates related to banking matters or other purposes (so-called No Objection Certificate, NOC)
  • Authentication of official Swedish documents
  • Marriage services, including impediment investigations and marriage certificates (the Consulate General does not have the authority to officiate weddings)
  • Applications for authorization to issue Swedish medical certificates for seafarers

In these matters, the Consulate primarily refers to other Swedish missions in the region (e.g., the Embassy in New Delhi), and secondarily to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm.
