Background
25 years after the government of Sweden introduced “Vision Zero”, this road safety model has proven quite successful. In the last 50 years road fatalities have been reduced by almost 90 percent in Sweden. Vision Zero has been adopted by numerous countries worldwide and is part of the Sustainable Development Goals to reduce global road traffic deaths and injuries namely number 3: Good Health and Well-being and number 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
In 2020 Thailand pledged to support the Stockholm Declaration in conjunction to the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety Sweden. Furthermore, Thailand co-sponsored the UNGA resolution “Improving global road safety” aiming to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50 percent by 2030.
The main objective of the webinar is to discuss the importance of Road Safety in supporting sustainable development by drawing experiences from Sweden, to promote the culture of prevention and to explore opportunities for cooperation between Thailand and Sweden in this field.
