Application or Renewal of Swedish Passport and National ID Card in Ethiopia
As a Swedish citizen, you may apply for a Swedish passport/national ID card at any Swedish passport authority worldwide and request to collect the passport/national ID card in Addis Ababa, subject to a fee.
To apply/renew a Swedish passport/national ID card at the embassy in Ethiopia, all applicants must book an appointment online.
Please click here to book an appointment.
New appointment times are released on the last Thursday of each month (or the next working day if it is a holiday) with two months' notice. The new times will then automatically be available in the booking system. Additional appointment times may be released through cancellations and changes.
Passport applicants are therefore encouraged to regularly visit the website to check for any available times.
When visiting the embassy, please observe the following:
Applicants who have booked an appointment at the embassy should have complete application forms to avoid causing delays for subsequent applicants.
The embassy also wishes to remind applicants of the importance of canceling any appointment that is no longer needed, so that other applicants have the opportunity to book an appointment.
We recommend the Swedish citizens having a valid passport/ID card take the opportunity to renew these during visits to Sweden, where it is generally easier and significantly cheaper to renew a passport. More information on how to apply for a Swedish passport in Sweden, see polisens webbplats. You can also request the Swedish police to send the new passport to the embassy in Addis Ababa, subject to a fee.
