If you have lost your ordinary passport and need to travel urgently, you can apply for a provisional passport. This passport is issued in paper format (A4), has a short validity period, contains no biometric data, and is intended for a specific and imminent one-way journey, usually back to Sweden.
1. Usage and validity:
A provisional passport is intended for immediate travel (within two to three days) and is only valid for a one-way journey. In exceptional cases, a provisional passport can be issued for travel to a country other than Sweden.
2. Approval by destination country:
It is your responsibility to check if the country you are travelling to accepts a Swedish provisional passport in A4 format and that it meets any validity and visa requirements. Please contact the country's embassy or a travel agency for confirmation.
3. For residents in Scotland:
If you live in Scotland, you can also apply for a provisional passport at the honorary consulate in Edinburgh.
