Checklist: Passport/ID-card applications adults (over 18)
Please ensure that you have read and brought all necessary documents specified below before you visit the Embassy for the passport/ID-card application.

The Embassy is closed on the following public holidays.
You must visit the embassy in person in order take your biometrics. All documents must be original documents or certified copies.
- You must have a Swedish ID number or a coordination number before you can apply for a passport/ID card.
- The form "Verification of Swedish Citizenship" must be completed and submitted at the time of application. The form can be printed and completed in advance or obtained and completed at the embassy.
- If you have another citizenship than Swedish, we need to see proof of that. The passport authority might want to see proof that you have not become a citizen in a country where you have been living previously.
- If you have never lived in Sweden, you must present a birth certificate providing the names of both parents.
- Bring your current passport. If your current passport has expired, you will also need to bring a valid Swedish photo ID (driving license/national ID card). - If your passport has been lost or stolen, a police report must be submitted The lost or stolen passport will then be invalidated by the Embassy. See Loss of passport .
- Bring means of payment as the fee is paid as you submit your application. The fee for an ordinary passport is the equivalent to SEK 1.600 in local currency. The fee can be paid by card (Mastercard/Visa) or cash.
- Normal processing time is around 2-3 weeks. You will be contacted via email when the passport is ready for collection. The new passport must be collected in person. The old passport must be brought for cancellation.
The new passport may be collected at any Swedish embassy or consulate or at a police station in Sweden. When picking up a passport at an authority other than where the application was submitted, there is an extra delivery fee which is paid at the time of collection.
If the passport is to be forwarded to a consulate, there is also a courier fee which is paid in connection with the application.
- No need to bring passport photo - all applicants are photographed on site at the time of application.
